EcoStation:NY is a Bushwick, Brooklyn-based nonprofit organization devoted to both food security and environmental justice, and where the two intersect: human and community health. We believe in the universal right of all to a healthy food supply and planet. We envision a future in which people have better access to affordable, pesticide-free produce, access to land and the skills to grow food, and opportunities for community involvement, education, and meaningful employment for all.

Outreach Coordinator
1 position available; 35 hours/week, seasonal (mid-May - mid-November)
This is a paid position.

Location: Bushwick, Brooklyn  
Spanish/English bilingual required

Work with EcoStation:NY, a bushwick, Brookyln-based environmental and food-justice nonprofit organization, to promote access to farm-fresh healthy foods in underserved communities, increasing awareness of incentive programs available at farmers’ markets, and working to bring people together around food, nutrition, and sustainability. Work closely with our Market Manager, Farm Manager, and Outreach Manager Apprentices. Spanish/English bilingual required; polyglot applicants strongly encouraged. EcoStation is an equal opportunity employer.
  • Attend monthly community meetings; collaborate with other nonprofits, city agencies, businesses, local restaurants and educators to promote access to farm-fresh food, awareness of EBT, WIC and other coupon and incentive programs used at the Bushwick Farmers’ Markets, and education about sustainable food production at the Bushwick Campus Farm & Greenhouse
  • Develop and maintain a database of contact information and a mailing list of collaborators
  • Collaborate on and implement promotional programs; develop and distribute promotional materials
  • Oversee and coordinate with Outreach Manager Apprentices
  • Help to organize public events and publicize them through a variety of media outlets while seeking new possibilities for outreach
  • Track attendance at markets and public events
  • Help with market sales
  • Bilingual Spanish/English required; polyglot applicants strongly encouraged

Farmers' Market Manager Apprentice
3 Positions available; 10-30 hours/week

Help manage three seasonal farmers' markets (Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays; June - November), working closely with the Market Manager, Farm Manager, and EcoStation directors. Help promote access to healthy, fresh, and locally grown food in underserved neighborhoods. Help coordinate community events, workshops, demonstrations, and educational programming centered around food. Bilingual English/Spanish and multi-lingual applicants strongly encouraged; EcoStation:NY is an equal opportunity employer.
  • Help to manage our “satellite” pop-up market program with the Bushwick Farmers’ Market Green Machine, a veggie-oil and solar-powered truck used for transport, storage, and outreach that will allow us to reach more areas of the neighborhood
  • Work with farmers, vendors, other markets, city agencies, and other non-profit organizations to build a just food network within the community
  • Learn about and assist with administrative tasks and bookkeeping
  • Help to ensure a safe, productive, and thrifty market day while welcoming and serving the public
  • Help maintain the markets as inviting places where we promote good eating habits, preparation of meals from local food sources, community awareness
  • Help with sales at market
  • Valid NYS Driver License a plus

Time commitment: 10-30 hrs/week
This is an unpaid apprenticeship

  • Visit WIC centers, senior centers, and schools to promote the farmers’ markets and incentive programs
    such as WIC & Senior FMNP, EBT, WIC Fruit & Veggie, and Health Bucks
  • Attend community meetings and events
  • Help organize and implement fun and inviting activities and events at market locations
  • Help to formulate and maintain an outreach calendar and a contact database
  • Help with sales at market
  • Valid NYS drivers license a plus

Time commitment: 10-30 hrs/week
This is an unpaid apprenticeship
