Winter Solstice 2012 Thanks

Now that the actual winter solstice has safely passed and time has not come to an end (the Mayans had us worried for a bit there!),
we want to thank all those that helped make Winter Solstice Feast 2012 such a wonderful night!

In addition to the delicious food offerings from Guacuco Arepera, Mama Joy's, Bushwick Kitchen, Olive Valley Restaurant, Chrissy's Cooking Club, Nextdoorganics, Northeast Kingdom, and Arancini Bros, the kitchens here at EcoStation headquarters were also busy, and we had a great time with some awesome, culinarily-inclined volunteers! Sugarbuzz Candies, Bakkus Wines & Sprits, and Boyd and Blair Potato Vodka also donated some fine products, and Bee of BK Farmyards and Kiersten conducted a very entertaining Holiday Mixology workshop.

Also greatly appreciated: the musicians who so graciously donated their talents:Sabor & The Afro-Latineers, Handsome Man Band (featuring our man Travis Tench), and the charming Laura Newman. Thanks again, everyone! Happy holidays! See you in the Spring!

– the Bushwick Farmers' Market Crew

Winter Solstice Feast 2012

In 2012, Bushwick Farmers' Market expanded its efforts to connect the area community with fresh food options from local family farms, operating three markets and two farm stands each week from June to November, and serving over 40,000 customers! Help EcoStation continue to grow our markets and provide for the community.

¡CALABAZAFEST! 2012 A BIG SUCCESS

Thank you to all who turned out for a day full of fun and HEART!
Hundreds of pounds of donations were collected for victims of Hurricane Sandy,
and we were treated to performances by some of the most talented musicians in the area!

Special thanks go to the Parks Department and the staff at
Maria Hernandez Park, El Puente's Bushwick Leadership Center,
Arts in Bushwick, and our wonderful volunteers!

¡CALABAZAFEST!, Bushwick’s fun and FREE cross-cultural community celebration of the season, returns to Maria Hernandez Park on Sunday November 4, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Now in its third year, the mini-festival continues to grow and delight.

¡CALABAZAFEST! is a colorful mash-up of Day of the Dead, Halloween, and Harvest Fair traditions, with an eco-friendly message. Activities will include pumpkin crafts, “sugar skull” mask making, a costume contest (4:00pm), and cooking demonstrations using seasonal ingredients. All vegetable waste will be composted and used to enrich the soil at Bushwick Campus Farm.

Fantastic live musical performances include Mariachi Flor de Toloache, Sabor and The Afro-Latineers, and Mariachi Tapatio de Alvaro Paulino!

¡CALABAZAFEST! 2012 is being presented by EcoStation:NY’s Bushwick Farmers’ Market, with community partners Arts in Bushwick, Make the Road NY, El Puente, and Bushwick Green Team. This community event is being made possible by a grant from Citizens Committee for New York City.

Join the party on Facebook. Volunteers are needed! Contact [email protected] for details.
